Greetings friends,
It’s late on Friday night but I wanted to share with you about some special guests. First off, tomorrow we will have a special guest blogger and I think know you’ll be inspired. Not only is she extremely talented but she is an extremely sweet person. Here’s a little sneak peek of what you’ll see tomorrow.
Tomorrow I will be listening to some special guests coming to our church. I’m excited about going for several reasons; first is that we will get a glimpse into the hearts of these special guests. Secondly is that from my law enforcement perspective, I am intrigued by how this special event is being handled. Tomorrow at the church event the only thing I am allowed to take is my identification; no phone, camera, or purse. I have several deputy friends that are working the event and I find it interesting to see how the Secret Service and local law enforcement are working in conjunction with/handling their own roles. You see, the special guests at our church tomorrow . . . presidential candidates Obama and McCain.
So I will share with you what I have heard and I’d love to hear about what you see tomorrow. I look forward to seeing your comments.
One additional thing . . . I’m looking so forward to sharing with you about the upcoming Fiskateer regional events. I’m eager to share details but it will have to wait. So if you’re interested in coming to the one I’ll be hosting here in Southern California . . . please save the date of Saturday, November 15th. More details to be announced.
Have yourself a wonderful Saturday!
Hey all!

Stephenie here…
I just thought that I would stop in, say hi, and share a little bit of what has been going on with me…
The boys, first of all, are growing like weeds! I am gone most weeks Tuesday through Thursday and I swear that every week they get bigger in 3 days. They are amazingly strong and are doing great with the craziness that has become our lives…
The move is slow going. My goal was to sell the house by today… it still is… we are having an open house on Sunday, though, and I hope that it will lead to the right people finding our house. We have been looking in Madison, but without selling here and Matt finding a job, it is kind of a balancing act.
I am excited because I had something published in a magazine for the first time… Holiday Home, the hard work of Stephanie Ackerman, hit stores recently and is chock-full of great holiday decorating and gift ideas. There are projects in there from Stephanie, Lisa Pace, and many others - check it out!
Finally, I just wanted to let you all know that I truly appreciate all of the emails and all of you who have continued to read my blog and just stay in touch with me on a regular basis. I truly enjoy talking to my fellow Fiskateers and hope all is well with all of you!
Finally, can I just say, the My Boys cliffhanger will be killing me for the next several long months!?!?!?!?!?!? I know some of you watch it with me, but come on - could they torture us any more!?!?!?!?
Okay, enough rambling, I just wanted to say hi… HI!!!!
Back To School Project Idea

It’s that time of year again. Store shelves are filled with the latest fashion clothing trends, crayons, book bags, spiral notebooks and Fiskars scissors.
Here in my home town, students will be returning to school next week. Although I am single and don’t have any children of my own, one thing I know for sure… there will be thousands of photos are taken on the first day of school. Whether it’s parents taking photos of their children climbing those big school bus steps for the first time or the teenager snapping photos on their cell phones of friends they haven’t seen all summer, the first day of school is always caught on film.
And since I don’t have any children of my own to create a scrapbook page of this special day, I’ve decided to create a page in advance for one of the employees at my store. All she has to do is add a photo of her daughter Kayln’s first day of Pre-K to the layout.
So, perhaps my Back to School page will inspire you to share your talents with a family member or a friend who has yet to discover the craft of scrapbooking. It’s just another way for ”Fiskateers to Spread the Fiskars Love!”
An Olympic Sized Challenge

Thank you to everyone who left a comment or sent an email with their thoughts on challenges. The majority voted for me to offer challenges every 2 weeks, but I also received a great idea to add some short ones into the mix, just for Fun! (And I’m all about Fun!)
So here is our 1st challenge, and You have 2 options.
1. In honor of Michael Phelps having won a career 11 Gold Medals (the most by any olympic athlete), create a scrapbook page that uses 11 different embellishments. Any 11 that you want, but they have to be different. You can use more than 11 if the inspiration takes you there. This is a huge challenge for me as I tend to use a minimal number of embellishments.
2. Create a paper craft (scrapbook page, card, etc.) that has 5 rings somewhere on it. The color of the rings doesn’t matter; the Olympic Emblem is just the inspiration.
On August 28th, I will draw a random winner to receive a prize pack.
To enter, upload your entry to the Fisk-a-Teer Gallery and post a link here. You can do either option or both. If you complete both, you will be entered into the random drawing twice.
The only rule is that this has to be a new project, created just for this Olympic Challenge.
Have Fun! I can’t wait to see what you create.

Homecoming - Thank You to our Military

The last couple of days I’ve been down and out and not feeling that well. Sometimes being sick or injured stops your daily life from spinning and helps you to slow down. It helps you to count your blessings or to think about what you’re grateful for.
I was going through some Fiskateer archives on You Tube . . . the videos of the leads, Brains on Fire, Fiskars and the Nifty Fifty when we were in San Antonio. One of the videos is called “Thanks from Fiskateer 1, 2 and 3″ (thanks for posting that Jen). I am grateful for that time and for the whole Fiskateer community!
While I was viewing that, I ran across another video with the words ‘thanks’ . . . giving thanks to our troops. It must have been put together at Thanksgiving but it says that everyday we should thank those men and women that serve and give the ultimate sacrifice. I agree.
As I randomly clicked on this video I wept. I remember the day that I had to say good bye to my husband (I was engaged at the time). It was near the end of his term in the Marine Corps. and we had no idea that this would be the beginning of a war. I remember watching him say goodbye to his best friend who is about 6′ 6′’. The emotion between the two was something I will long not forget. I remember trying to be strong (although the tears fell) and after seeing him off, I walked through my mom and dad’s door and broke down. At that time Rodney couldn’t tell us where he was going but this was the beginning of Desert Shield/Storm.
Then I remember the day he came home after a little over a year. The anticipation, the excitement, the emotion . . . the homecoming. It was my family, friends, myself . . . waiting anxiously for Rodney’s arrival. We arrived on base at the time they specified. We were turned away as they announced that the plane would not arrive today . . . maybe tomorrow. Almost everyone sadly got in their vehicles and started to drive off. Half way home we noticed a large military plane flying towards the base and my dad turned that car around. Some others had the same idea. Sadly many had already started their journey home and some of the men and women wouldn’t have family there to greet them. As men and women got off the plane, the whole crowd present was thanking them, applauding them, waving their flags, strangers were shaking their hands or hugging them. We were thanking them all. I will never forget when I saw my man . . . the feeling! I have photos in a box with letters from the war. It still seems a little fresh to scrap although it’s been years. I want my daughter to know this story, to know how grateful I am that God brought her daddy home safely, to be grateful to our military for the sacrifices they have made in the past, present and that they will make in the future.
I know that no one likes war . . . and no matter what side of the fence we stand on regarding our thoughts about the war . . . our service men and women are still out there serving our country and putting their lives on the line. They are sacrificing much and deserve our prayers and thanks. So I’m praying for a safe homecoming for many tonight . . . I’m saying some extra prayers for our military personnel serving all around the world. Every day is a day to say thank you to them.
And a special thanks and prayers for to those men and women and their families that have paid the ultimate price.
Birthday Post Winners

Thank you soooo much for all of the fun theme ideas on my birthday! There were so many good ones. I particularly like Annie’s idea to throw a Willy Wonka candy party and Amy Harle’s Project Runway idea (they know me too well, I think). My birthday in Japantown was really fun- I will share photos once I win the epic battle with my primary computer that is being fought at the moment. I did find great items for my kid’s bento-style lunches and tons of interesting Japanese candies and sodas to try.
For my totally subjective birthday hat photo winner, I chose Michelle #3624 because adding the birthday candles to the top of her hat made me laugh out loud (http://www.fiskateers.com/community/photo/25170/). I love that she considered lightening them, even for a moment. And having her dog Scruffy join in the contest was pretty funny too (http://www.fiskateers.com/community/photo/25171/). Thank you to everyone who played along- it really did help make my birthday that much more fun.
For the random draw winner (I use random.org to choose numbers), I drew Angela #3100 (great name- lol!). You will also get a party-in-a-box to have an impromptu crop/ scrapping party with 6 of your friends. You can use this for your upcoming September birthday, Angela.
Fiskateer Live Chat Tomorrow Night

It’s time for another Fiskateer Live Chat Tomorrow Night!
We have a special guest for this chat, author & home decor celebrity Mark Montano. Mark is best known for being part of the design team for TLC Networks show While You Were Out. He has also appeared on several shows on the Style Network as well as writing several articles for magazines and newspapers. Mark has also authored several books including this one…
This book is filled with all sorts of inspiring crafts including: Paper, painting, sewing, homemade bath products, paper-mache, and much, much more! What’s super cool about this book is that the projects are quick and easy and most of them are created from stuff just sitting around your house. For a packrat like me, this book is awesome!
As you can see from the photo placed on the cover of this book, I met Mark during CHA Chicago last month. I was working at the Li’l Davis Designs Make-and-Take table and up walks Mark. He grabbed one of the Fiskars Squeeze punches right off the table and said “I love this tool!” And my immediate response to him was “But have you seen all the new shapes that Fiskars is coming out with?” His eyes got big and said “New shapes? I’ve got to see them!” So I did what any Fiskateer should do in such a situation. I grabbed Mark by the hand and took him over to section of the Fiskars booth where all the new squeeze punches were on display. Before you knew it, there we were testing out the new scallop squeeze punch shapes. It was a pretty cool moment, the two of us standing there picking out our favorites.
So, I guess you can imagine that I’m really excited that he will be our special guest for our chat tomorrow night. For those of you who have never participated in one of our chats, I guarantee that this one will not disappoint. Mark is not only talented, but very funny too. And I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there is a “special surprise” given away during this chat.
So join us on Monday, August 11th, 2008. 8:00 pm Central/6:00 pm PST/9:00 pm EST. Here’s the link…

Edit: So did you catch this chat? Thank you Mark for joining us last night. (See my additional comments below)
